Fredonia acquires multi-year Zoom license, making it easier to hold virtual meetings

Fredonia’s Information Technology Services has procured a three-year license for Zoom, an industry-leading video conferencing tool, that will make it a snap for faculty, staff, students and emeriti to use Zoom to conduct their own virtual meetings.

Zoom has been integrated into Fredonia’s eServices login system so it can be easily utilized for general campus use. Zoom was widely utilized during the recent virtual Middle States accreditation visit.

The Zoom client has been installed on all Fredonia-owned on-campus computers. To have Zoom installed on your Fredonia-owned laptop, please schedule an appointment with the ITS Service Center. To install on your personal device, please visit the Zoom Download Center

The newest version of Zoom has a greater level of security and greatly diminishes the possibility of getting “Zoom bombed,” this is, having someone join a meeting who wasn’t invited. “It has a ‘lobby’ feature, so it doesn’t let people directly into a meeting; you actually have to invite them into the meeting room,” explained Associate Vice President for ITS/Chief Information Officer Stephen Rieks.

Information and resources on Zoom can be found online.
