Fredonia 'Pink Week' activities start Feb. 2

Fredonia Blue Devil Athletics will look to raise awareness about breast and ovarian cancer during Pink Week from Saturday, Feb. 2 through Saturday, Feb. 9.
The week will begin and end with annual celebrations. The women's basketball team will sponsor Girls & Women In Sports Day on Feb. 2 and will wear pink uniforms for its game that day. The men's hockey team will hold its Pink The Rink game on Feb. 9.
Week-long activities will include Games Night on Monday, Feb. 4, plus on-line "Assess Your Risk:" testing in the University Commons lobby and at all home games. Everyone will be invited a sign a banner to show their support of cancer survivors.
Also, "I Fight For" cancer survivor placards will be distributed and displayed throughout the week at home events.

Sat., Feb. 2
1 p.m. – Swimming & Diving vs. Brockport (Senior Day) / Steele Hall
2 p.m. – Women's Basketball vs. Plattsburgh (Pink Game, Senior Day) / Dods Hall
4 p.m. – Men's Basketball vs. Plattsburgh  / Dods Hall
(National Girls and Women in Sports Day will be celebrated during the basketball games.)

Sun., Feb. 3
Noon – Women's Basketball vs. Potsdam / Dods Hall
2 p.m. – Men's Basketball vs. Potsdam / Dods Hall

Mon., Feb. 4
5 to 7 p.m. – Games Night / Steele Hall. Food, drink, games (KanJam, cornhole & more ... ) 
Tues., Feb. 5
5:30 p.m. – Women's Basketball vs. Brockport / Dods Hall
7:30 p.m. – Men's Basketball vs. Brockport (Senior Night)  / Dods Hall
Fri., Feb. 8
7 p.m. – Men's Hockey vs. Potsdam (Senior Recognition) / Steele Hall
Sat., Feb. 9
7 p.m. – Men's Hockey vs. Plattsburgh (Pink The Rink) / Steele Hall

Fredonia closed out the home portion of the 2019 women's lacrosse season with a 13-12 SUNYAC win Saturday over Plattsburgh. Samantha Spiess, one of two Fredonia seniors, had a five-point game -- two goals and three assists -- and surpassed the 100-point plateau in the process.

Kurbs wins Cortland 10,000 meters

Hannah Kurbs won the women's 10,000 meters Saturday at the Cortland Classic Invitational track and field meet. Kurbs's winning time of 39:02.29 was a personal best, one of six recorded by Fredonia women at during the two-day meet at SUNY Cortland.

Serafin wins high jump, Egan 3rd with PR in steeplechase

First place by Nick Serafin in the men's high jump was Fredonia's best finish at the Cortland Classic Invitational track and field meet Friday and Saturday. Serafin's clearance of 6 feet, 6 inches tied his personal-best in the event.
