Cara Pellichia and Casey Fetzner won field events Saturday at the Fredonia State Invitational, the first outdoor track and field meet on campus on the new outdoor facility.
Pellichia entered the pole vault at 3.45 meters (11 feet, 3.75 inches), after all other competitors had fouled out, and cleared the bar on her third attempt. She then unsuccessfully attempted 3.73 meters.
Fetzner won the discus with a best throw of 36.68m (120 feet, 4 inches) on her opening attempt; she added two more throws over 36.60 meters and won the event by more than a meter.
In the long jump, Brayton Tripi finished second and Yauvani Liddelow fourth. Tripi's best jump of 4.72 meters (15 feet, 6 inches) came during the fifth of six rounds. Liddelow covered 4.57 meters on her first attempt.
In running events, Emily Frank finished second and Calie Hudson third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Frank hit the All-Atlantic Region mark of 11:47.59 after running an opening split of 45.58 seconds and a final lap of 1:29.95 to pick up two spots. Hudson's time was 11:50.09.
Emily Cardinale was sixth after preliminaries but finished second in the final of the 100-meter high hurdles in 17 seconds flat. Alexi Sheen won her heat and was fourth in the final.
Siera Shenoy finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.40, which won her heat.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Hazel Bache placed 3rd in 1:08.43, while Sheen was sixth.
