Fredonia's Cara Pellechia is the 2025 SUNYAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year as nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.
Pellechia won the SUNYAC women's outdoor pole vault title for the third year in a row this season, and now has six conference titles overall (indoor and outdoor) in three years. Pellechia also participated in the 100-meter dash, where she finished seventh at the SUNYAC meet.
She was also named the Fredonia State Female Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row.
Pellechia is a junior Communication Disorders and Sciences major with a 3.95 overall GPA. She was also named the SUNYAC Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year for the indoor season.
In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
