Alexis Tunstall of Forestville, NY, has been named Student of the Month for March by the Office of Residence Life.
School of Business Professor Moj Seyedian nominated Ms. Tunstall for the award based on her strong academic record and achievements, including being named to Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society, as well as numerous contributions she’s made to the campus.
Tunstall is a junior with majors in Political Science and Accounting.
Dr. Seyedian praised Tunstall’s abilities, stating, “Alexis is a brilliant student who has been on the Dean's List every semester she has been here. I have been very impressed by her performance in my Economics class – always prepared to participate in class discussions and defend her position on the economic issues.
“I should also report that based on my conversation with my colleagues, she behaves the same way in other classes,” he added.
Tunstall has been involved with the campus Mock Trial Club, a club that promotes interest and understanding of the legal field, for three semesters. Currently, she has been the organization's president. Last year, in addition to active participation in routine mock trials, Tunstall organized a very successful attorney answers event in which Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt conducted a question-and-answer session with students.
Additionally, last semester, Tunstall volunteered to work a voter registration table with the League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County to promote voter participation on campus. She also works at the Sheridan VFW as a waitress as well as Barnes Greenhouses as a cashier.
Tunstall was an intern with Fredonia's VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program.
When asked about her favorite things about Fredonia, Tunstall wrote, ”The people! I have been so fortunate to meet so many amazing people who are not only passionate about their respective subjects but also the people around them. The professors truly go above and beyond for their students.”
When asked about her future plans, she responded, “I plan on attending law school after graduation as my ultimate goal is to practice law.”
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.
