Shannon McMullen, a senior from Syracuse, NY, was named September Resident Assistant of the Month by Residence Life.
A second semester RA and Political Science major, Ms. McMullen is also president of Tau Sigma and a member of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Catholic Student Fellowship at Fredonia, and is the Hall Council liaison for University Commons and Gregory Hall.
This semester I have seen Shannon working very closely with students to get them involved in the campus community, including creating new opportunities for them to get involved and meet new people.” - Donna Good West
Outside of Fredonia, McMullen co-founded an international support group for those living with rare diseases, more specifically abdominal vascular compression syndromes. She also has various advocacy projects, such as mentoring other patients, a fundraiser and teaching medical professionals about rare diseases.
When asked about her favorite thing about Fredonia, McMullen replied, “The community! Everyone is so supportive, and it feels like a family. The campus has a lot of beautiful nature, which is so awesome! There are so many opportunities and things to get involved in.
“Additionally, I love my friends here at Fredonia! They are a huge blessing and surely one of my favorite things about Fredonia.” After graduation, McMullen plans to go to nursing school and combine her interests in patient care and health care policy.
McMullen was nominated by Residence Director Donna Good West of Chautauqua Hall, whose praises of her include: "Shannon goes above and beyond for her residents. This semester I have seen Shannon working very closely with students to get them involved in the campus community, including creating new opportunities for them to get involved and meet new people.
“I think this shows a lot of initiative, care for community, and the desire to help students feel a sense of belonging,” Ms. West added.
