Rosa Parks Scholarship winners announced

The winners of three Rosa Parks Scholarships, Nia Morse, Xi Yek and Yuwan Ilano, will be honored at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at noon in the Williams Center Horizon Room.

Ms. Morse, who wrote a poem, “Leftovers,” is a sophomore from Buffalo majoring in Theatre Arts. Mr. Yek, author of a poem, “Honey Nut Cheerios,” is a first-year student from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, majoring in Physics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. Mr. Ilano, who created the video, “The Rise of Fallon Angel,” is a sophomore from Rome, N.Y., majoring in Theatre Arts.

The recipients will present their winning entries and be awarded $350 scholarships.

The annual competition recognizes student entries, in the form of writing, speaking, drawing, photography and dancing, which express views and experiences with multiculturalism and the celebration of diversity. It was established at Fredonia in 1989 in honor of the African American Civil Rights activist.
