The Fredonia State men's track and field team turned in a strong weekend of performances while competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University and the Crimson & Gold Invitational at Oberlin College.
The highlight of the weekend came from a pair of school-record performances by Talon Rowland and Jordan Lockett. Competing at Boston University, Rowland broke the Fredonia State school record in the 400 meters with a time of 48.92. Also at the Valentine Invitational, Lockett etched his name into the record book in the 200 meters, posting a time of 21.99 seconds to break the previous school record.
Fredonia State also recorded several notable performances at the Crimson & Gold Invitational in Oberlin. In the sprints, Ronald Szpylman finished second in the 60-meter dash (7.12), with Blake Hageman close behind in third at 7.31 seconds. Demarion Benton also competed in the event, finishing in 7.65 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Ryan Perry recorded a time of 24.65 seconds, while Benton added a 25.97 effort to close out the sprint events for the Devils. The distance group continued to shine for Fredonia State as Stephen Halberg claimed first place in the mile with a time of 4:34.19 and later won the 3,000 meters in 9.13.73. Kaden Worthley finished second in the mile at 4.38.98, giving Fredonia a one-two finish, while Kenin Moser placed third in 4:48.09.
Fredonia State also captured a first-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay as well with a time of 3:59.71
The Devils will look to build on their momentum as the indoor season continues as they head to Brockport next weekend.
