Thomas Hayes, a second semester resident assistant in Grissom Hall, has been named RA of the Month for January/February by the Office of Residence Life.

Mr. Hayes, a junior majoring in Theatre Arts from Rochester, NY, is a tour guide, a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a social media intern in the Office of Admissions and a Judicial Board member.

When asked about his favorite thing(s) about Fredonia, Hayes replied: “What I love most about Fredonia is it’s a caring community. As an RA, I have gotten the chance to have a bigger role in building that community.

“When I was a freshman my RAs had a huge impact on me and I wanted to have that same effect on my residents. Seeing them every day and getting the opportunity to help them with anything they are going through makes me extremely happy. Building a community where all my residents feel safe, valued and respected has been significant in my life here at Fredonia.”

Hayes was nominated for the award by Kyle Piscitelli, residence director of Grissom Hall. Of his praise of Hayes, Mr. Piscitelli said, “Thomas goes out of his way to get to know the students in the hall. Students go out of their way to come chat with Thomas on his duty nights or during his desk hours. Thomas also goes out of his way to make sure everyone is included, especially our shy residents. Overall, Thomas is one of the most standout community builders I've ever seen.”

Hayes’ future goals include staying involved on campus and continuing to grow and meeting new people. After graduation, he plans to do a little traveling before pursuing his master’s degree.
