David M. White received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award on Aug. 9, in a ceremony held at Howard University.

The award, approved by former President Joe Biden before leaving office and presented on his behalf, is the highest civilian honor for volunteer service, recognizing individuals who have committed their lives to service, civic engagement and strengthening communities across the country.

The ceremony was held at the Armour J. Blackburn Center at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Mr. White was honored alongside other former NFL players for his exceptional dedication to volunteerism and public service. With countless hours of impactful service, he has helped uplift individuals and his community through education, athletics, and mentorship — creating pathways to opportunity and empowerment for people from all walks of life.

White has served in a number of significant leadership roles including Basileus (President) of the Phi Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; a board member for the Willie Hutch Jones Educational & Sports Program and Next Move Foundation, LLC; and Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America (Troop 139 and Troop 888).

White has served the SUNY Fredonia campus for over 20 years in various capacities, demonstrating unwavering commitment to student success, diversity, and inclusion. His roles have included Admissions Counselor/Coordinator of Minority Recruitment, Director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and currently, Director of Multicultural Support Services and Veterans Administrator.

Through these positions, White has consistently championed equity and access to higher education, while serving as a trusted mentor and advocate for countless students, particularly those from historically underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds. The national recognition affirms that White is a changemaker, a bridge-builder, and a tireless servant leader whose work has transformed lives both on our campus and beyond.

The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award is part of the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) program, which honors individuals who have dedicated over 4,000 hours to service and volunteerism.
