The SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the season in King Concert Hall.

The event is slated for Saturday, April 25 at 8 p.m., is free and the public is invited to attend.

The program includes the epic Symphony No. 4 by David Maslanka. Widely regarded as a cornerstone of the modern wind band repertoire, the powerful work resonates deeply with audiences through its intense emotional journey and profound message. Mr. Maslanka described the symphony as arising from the “spontaneous rise of the impulse to shout for the joy of life.” Drawing on chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach, the work reflects a deeply spiritual and transformative experience.

Under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb, the ensemble will open the program with “Fanfare for Uncommon Times” by Valerie Coleman. Featuring the brass section, the work was commissioned in response to the emotional and societal challenges of 2021 and ʼ22, reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing pursuit of social justice.

Graduate student conductor Joe Newton will lead performances of “Molly on the Shore” by Percy Grainger, as well as the premiere of “Le Grand Fantasme” by student composer Amber Beauchamp, a composition and piano major at Fredonia.
