Fredonia State women's basketball opens the regular season on Sat., Nov. 9 vs. Pitt.-Bradford at 6 p.m. in Dods Hall in the first of 12 home games on the 25-game schedule.

Head Coach Sarah Cartmill will guide the Blue Devils for the second straight year. Her 2018-19 team posted a 12-15 record, including an 8-4 home record. They reached the SUNYAC semifinal round for the fifth time in program history. 

The first SUNYAC game is Sat., Dec. 7 at Buffalo State, part of the Battle By The Lake series. The Bengals return the favor when they visit Dods Hall on Sat., Feb. 22, the final game of the regular season.
 

Key losses:

Jenna Einink - Four-time All SUNYAC, 10.5 ppg, 9.2 rpg in 2018-19

Sarah Sweazy - 8.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg, team-high 52 steals


Top returnees:

The Devils return 11 players, including three starters

Anna Chiacchia, senior - 8.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg

Rae White, junior - 8.3 ppg, team high 25 three pointers

Katie Pitcher, sophomore - 8.2 ppg, 6.2 ppg

Lauren Mickley, sophomore – 3.9 ppg, appeared in all 27 games as a freshman

Jayla James, junior – 14 three pointers, appeared in 23 games


Newcomers:

MacKenzie Hamer, Finger Lake C.C. transfer – averaged 9.0 ppg, had 59 three pointers as a freshman in 2017-18

Audrey Craffey and Maddy Miske, freshmen - the team's only two freshmen, played AAU ball on the same team before joining the Blue Devils


About last year:

Finished sixth in the SUNYAC

Picked up a road playoff win at Oneonta, 59-51, to advance to the semi-finals

The Devils return seven sophomores, including Pitcher, Mickley, Katie Smith, Kayla Purcell, Morgan Davis, Sarah Keast, and Braelin Scott

Six juniors dot the roster -- James, Hamer, White, Heaven Rollek, Abbey Monahan, and Alexis Grissom

Trisha Lane and Chiacchia are the team's lone seniors

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
