Women's Tennis serves up first home event of '19-'20

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Women's tennis has the first scheduled home event of the 2019-20 Fredonia Blue Devil athletic year, an August 30 match starting at 4 p.m. vs. D'Youville on the Steele Hall courts.

There are 15 matches on the full 2019 schedule, including seven against SUNYAC opponents. Fredonia will play two conference matches at home, two on the road, and three at the Binghamton Tennis Center, also the site of the conference championships Oct. 12-13.

The Blue Devils reached the 2018 SUNYAC semifinals with a 6-3 win over Plattsburgh in the final match of the regular season.

Fredonia is coached by Matt Johnson, now in his second year in charge. He guided last year's team to a 12-4 mark, a school record for most wins in a season.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
