Fredonia Chamber Choir performing in Rosch Recital Hall.
The Fredonia Chamber Choir will be joining the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in a world premiere.
Also collaborating in the performance, to be conducted by JoAnn Falletta, will be the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus.
The work, “Francis: An Oratorio in Nine Scenes,” is by composer Richard Danielpour with Sr. Margaret Carney as librettist. The choirs will be joined by narrator Claudia Christian as the Angel, and soloists including baritone Edward Nelson as Francis and soprano Anna Schubert as St. Clare.
Performances are slated for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m. at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, NY. Tickets can be purchased online.
The work is inspired by the life of St. Francis of Assisi, marking the 800th anniversary of his death. Through orchestra, chorus, soloists, and narration, the oratorio is said to explore compassion, transformation, care for creation, and the search for meaning in a divided world.
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus were the recipients of a GRAMMY award in the category of “Best Choral Performance” for their recording of Mr. Danielpour’s “The Passion of Yeshua” in 2021.
The Fredonia Chamber Choir is the premier choral ensemble of Fredonia consisting of 24 singers auditioned from 170 voice majors. The choir tours annually and serves as musical and cultural ambassadors for Fredonia School of Music, specializing in advanced choral repertoire while offering additional music for special events and outreach performances. It is directed by Dr. Vernon Huff.
