Baker, Hewitt double; Santiago qualifies

Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) and Jake Hewitt (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) were double winners, and Rafael Santiago (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) posted an NCAA qualifying score off the 1-meter board when the Fredonia men's swimming and diving team traveled to Geneseo on Saturday.

Baker posted a time of 1:49.09 in his 200-yard freestyle victory, and a time of 49.94 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Hewitt won the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.18) and 100-yard butterfly (55.79).

Santiago's score of 280.20 earned him first place off the 1-meter. It was also an NCAA qualifying score. A pair of Blue Devils, Arron Carlson (263.55) (LeRoy, ,N.Y./Notre Dame) and Jacob Storms (218.05) (Owego, N.Y./Owego), finished second and third, respectively.

Santiago's score of 274.40 put him second off the 3-meter board.

Adam Clouthier (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was the only other individual to claim a first, his victory coming in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:02.79).

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Clouthier, Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y./York), Justin Hawes (Akron, N.Y./Akron) and Baker finished first in a time of 1:31.98.

Geneseo claimed the overall team victory, 163.5-128.5.

The team travels to Alfred University next weekend.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
