Bartlett, Carlson make CSCAA academic list
Add one more honor to the resumes of storied Fredonia divers Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) and Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y./Notre Dame).
The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America earlier this summer recognized the pair as Scholar All-Americans. It is the second such honor for Bartlett, the first for Carlson.
A six-time NCAA Division III All-American, Bartlett graduated in May with a degree in Management. Her awards resume this season included SUNYAC Female Diver of the Meet and Diver of the Year, SUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's swimming and diving and Fredonia Female Athlete of the Year, a repeat selection. She is the daughter of Kim and Eric Bartlett.
Carlson, the son of Deanna and Rohn Carlson, earned his fourth and fifth All-American certificates in the spring. He also was named SUNYAC Men's Diver of the Meet and Diver of the Year as well as recipient of the James Fulton Award, given by the SUNYAC for athletic and academic achievement in men's swimming and diving. He was also a repeat winner of the Fredonia Male Athlete of the Year award. He graduated in May after majoring in Geology and minoring in Geographic Information Systems.
The CSCAA named a record 997 swimmers and divers for its Scholar All-America team. The selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and participated in their respective national swimming and diving championships. "Between the athletic and academic components required to receive the award," CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield said, "these really are some of the best of the best. It really shows that excellence in the classroom and the pool can be achieved at any program – not just pockets here or there."
In addition to the two individual awards, the Fredonia women's swimming & diving team was cited by the CSCAA for amassing a team GPA of 3.31. In total, 720 teams representing 443 institutions achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2017 semester.
