Bartlett claims SUNYAC 3-meter title

For the third straight year, Fredonia senior Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y.) was crowned winner of women's 3-meter driving at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving championship meet Thursday.

Bartlett had a finals score of 516.05 points after posting a preliminary score of 523.90. She won the title by 29 1/2 points while senior teammate Sam Kowalewski (Cowlesville) finished fifth with 430.20 points.

The pair earned 34 of Fredonia's 80 team points on the first day of the three-day meet at the Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo. They will be back in action Saturday during the 1-meter competition.

The Blue Devils' other scoring Thursday came in relays -- 24 points for a' seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 22 points for an eighth-place in the 400-yard medley relay. They ended Day 1 sixth of nine teams.

The Fredonia State men's track and field team had its final tune-up before the SUNYAC meet, taking part in the University of Rochester Spring Twilight Meet. Quillan Shimp took the podium, finishing first place in the 400m hurdles.

On April 25, Dods Hall on the campus of SUNY Fredonia was home to the annual Dunkirk-Fredonia Unified Basketball Game. In front of a raucous crowd, the two teams battled it out for four quarters.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.
