Baumann solid in home opener

Alyson Baumann (North Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) turned in another strong effort in the Fredonia women's swimming and diving team home opener on Saturday. Bauman won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:24.21 and the 500 free in 5:30.44.

She was also credited with a first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and a third place in the 100 free in 56.47.

Her teammates in the relay included Taylor Chwalinski (West Seneca/West Seneca West), Lydia Gaughran (Burt/Newfane), and Emilie Phinney (Grand Island/Grand Island).

Second place finishes in the swimming included Chelsea Spiegel in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.53, and the 200 I.M. in a time of 2:26.93, just 0.3 seconds out of first, and Chwalinski in the 50 freestyles in 26.92, and the 200 freestyle in 2:09.56.

Ashleigh Reinhardt (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) came in second off both boards. She scored a 203.00 of the 1-meter board and a 192.25 off the 3-meter board. Gaughran had a pair of thirds with a 148.05 in the 1 meter, and a 192.25 off the 3 meter.

Nazareth won the meet, 194-83.

The Devils are off until Dec. 1 when they play host for the three-day Blue Devil Invitational.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
