Bill Finn, '83 business graduate, now CEO of Buffalo hospice center, to meet with academic leaders

SUNY Fredonia alumnus William E. Finn (’83. Bus. Admin.), President and Chief Executive Officer for The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care (CHPC) in Buffalo, N.Y., will return to his alma mater this Tuesday, May 11. During his visit he will meet with college administrators and departmental leaders to discuss opportunities for partnerships across multiple disciplines for students, graduates and faculty researchers.

The CHPC has a clear link to numerous areas of study on campus, including social work, music therapy, political science, marketing and business administration, natural sciences such as biology and chemistry, psychology, sociology, public relations and more.

He will also address various campus leaders during a luncheon hosted by the Fredonia College Foundation at 12:15 in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center.

Finn has led the CHPC since 2002. Prior to this, he served as Executive Vice President and COO for 10 years, and has been in the field of hospice and palliative care for 27 years. Hospice Buffalo and The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care now serves more than 750 patients each day with one of the most integrated and innovative end-of-life care systems in the country.

Under his leadership, The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care has created the nation’s first minority-partnership Hospice Residence, established a national model for Palliative Care Management in the Home Connections program, created the largest palliative care physician group practice in the Northeast U.S., and created The Palliative Care Institute, a not-for-profit collaboration with the University at Buffalo for palliative care research, education and practice.

As CEO, he oversees Hospice Buffalo, Inc., providing medical care as well as emotional and spiritual support to children, adults, and families in their homes, hospitals, adult homes/nursing facilities or other home-like residences; Essential Care for Children, a home care program serving children and their families facing life-threatening illness; Caring Hearts Home Care, a licensed home health agency; and Life Transitions Center, a community grief and loss counseling and support center, the Hospice Foundation of WNY.

Finn was named chair of the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York State in the 1990s and again in 2006, and has served on the Board of Trustees for 21 years. He is also Vice Chair of the National Hospice Work Group, a think tank for national innovation leadership in hospice and palliative care. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a board member of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. He is a Leadership Buffalo graduate and has served on numerous boards including the Catholic Health System of Western New York, People, Inc., Mid-Erie Mental Health Services, the International Institute and the MusicalFare Theater Co. He has presented at the state and national levels on hospice and health care issues, is published in health care journals and has consulted across the U.S.
 
In addition to the bachelor's degree Finn earned from SUNY Fredonia, he also holds a master's of business administration (M.B.A.) from the University at Buffalo.
