An article by SUNY Fredonia assistant professor of communication Bond Benton will be published in Palooka Journal later this April. The piece is a creative non-fiction article entitled, “Conquest at the Maiden Tower,” which describes Benton’s experience and research while he practiced public relations overseas.

“It's about my experience working as a consultant in Azerbaijan and it's generally written from the perspectives of some of the less savory and more imperialistic Americans I met while working there,” says Benton.

Palooka Journal is a non-profit journal of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, plays, graphic short stories, graphic essays, comic strips and art/photography. It is offered in print or electronic version and is also an online presence offering samples of the published materials. Palooka Journal strives to find those writers and artists who are flying under the radar, producing great works that are going unnoticed by other journals.

It is a selective journal, which accepts less than one percent of submissions.

Dr. Benton joined the Fredonia Communication Department in 2010 as a professor of public relations. A particular focus of Dr. Benton’s research is international communication and public diplomacy. Dr. Benton resided in Austria for the last six years where he worked with the U.S. State Department in helping staff at various embassies better tell the American story to the world community. His research focuses extensively on the public diplomacy nations use to highlight attractive aspects of their cultures to build relationships with diverse international audiences.
