Brown Bag talk to focus on children as the transformation catalyst

Environmental shift will be explored by Dave Bauer, a children’s author and owner of The Change Circle life coaching program, at the Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, March 7, at noon, at Williams Center Room S204-ABC.

In his presentation, Mr. Bauer will explain why children are the vital transformation catalyst. Bauer helps local organizations mobilize projects in which children and their families and communities foster creative nature play. A discussion will follow his talk. Opening remarks will be given by Dr. Ivani Vassoler-Froelich.

The Change Circle, which he founded, mentors individuals and groups from preschool through retirement. He is the author of the children’s interactive nature book “What’s Under that Rock, Papa?” and has a M.S. in education and certifications in creativity and change leadership and nature play.

Bauer’s talk continues this year’s Convocation theme of “Transformation” and is free and open to the public. The informal sessions are held each month throughout the semester are supported by the Carnahan Jackson Humanities Fund, Faculty Student Association and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

A raffle, featuring items by well-known Fredonia area artists, will be held to raise money to support a student study abroad mission to Honduras. Students enrolled in the 2019 J-term course, Honduras Health Care, taught by Dr. Ted Lee, will conduct medical brigades and do service work at day-long clinics set up in schools or community centers in small rural communities.

Fredonia to host Safe Halloween for area children

The annual Safe Halloween, an event for local children and their parents/guardians, will be held at Fredonia on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to noon in Mason Hall. Guests are invited to come dressed up and ready for trick-or-treating. Every child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Actress and alumna Mary McDonnell to return to Fredonia on Homecoming Weekend

Fredonia will welcome two-time Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe-nominated actress Mary McDonnell, Fredonia Class of '74, back to campus. She will join Department of Theatre and Dance Associate Professor Jessica Hillman-McCord at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Robert W. Marvel Theatre for “An Afternoon with Mary McDonnell,” in what promises to be a lively and informal conversation about the actress’ life and career on the Broadway stage, in film and in television.
