Donation Drive Assembly Line 2007
Students formed an assembly line in 2007 to move the thousands of donations from a residence hall to trucks carrying them to local agencies.
On Friday, Dec. 5, volunteers will be sweeping the SUNY Fredonia campus collecting donations for the 9th annual Campus-Wide Donation Drive. All items collected will be donated to the local agencies of the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization.

Items sought are non-perishable food items, new or old toys, and new or old (gently used) clothing. Volunteers will be accepting donations in the Williams Center, Room G-141/142 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Faculty and staff are asked to put donations outside their office doors by noon on Dec. 5, so that volunteers can stop by to pick them up. Residential students are asked to put donations in the lobby of their building in the box labeled, “Campus-wide Donation Drive” by 9 a.m. that day. Faculty and student donations can also be brought to room G-141/142 of the Williams Center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Students are encouraged not only to donate, but to volunteer for the cause as well. The organizing group is looking for campus volunteers to help pick up, sort and package donations.

“One of the most important aspects of the donation drive is our large amount of student volunteers,” said Stephanie Wares, the co-organizer for the Donation Drive. “We are so grateful for all the campus and community donations and for all those who volunteer to collect donations each year.”

Last year, the donation drive collected 25 boxes of toys, 50 boxes of food, and 50 (60 gallon) bags of clothing, which were sorted and packaged for transport by 67 student volunteers from various student organizations and residence halls, and university staff.

The event is co-sponsored by the SUNY Fredonia Counseling Center, Office of Academic Advising, Residence Life, custodial services, volunteer services, and Student Affairs. It is being co-organized by Julie Bezek of the Counseling Center and Stephanie Wares of academic advising.
