Club hockey team heading to nationals

SUNY Fredonia is one of the sixteen teams left that began from a pool of 120 teams located all across the U.S.A.

Fredonia Club Hockey is one of sixteen teams vying for the ACHA D-3 National title held in Rochester, N.Y. March 4 - 7. 

They finished the 2008-2009 regular season with a record of 19 - 4 - 1, and ranked 3rd in the Atlantic region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association qualifying for the Atlantic regional tournament.

The team will be in the blue division, pool C, competing against teams from aross the USA including Dordt College (Iowa), Florida Gulf Coast University and Delta CC(Michigan). Other teams from New York participating in the tournament include SUNY Farmingdale and SUNY Albany.

The team's first game versus Dordt College will be held at ESL Sports Centre in Rochester, NY on Wednesday, March 4th at 10:00AM

At the Atlantic Regional tournament they defeated division rival Penn State Behrend 7-3 in the first round and defeated Southern Connecticut State 6-3 in the final round. By doing so, they secured the #3-Seed in the Atlantic region and moves on to participate in the ACHA D-3 National Tournament, March 4-7, 2009, held in Rochester, NY at ESL Sports Centre.

The ACHA Hockey team's roster includes Senior's Jeff Frohm, Jeff Schneeberger, Jamie Dill, Richard Budnik, Nick Hurley, and Chris Pantas. Junior's inlcude Louie Maier, Grant Corsaro, Ryan Theophilus, Dan Schwab, Brendan Prince, Lawrence Broad, Dan Trombley, Josh Malthaner, Justin Giles and Pat Hurley. Sophomore class includes Aaron Miller, Josh Salter, Vince Epping, Nick Lazor, Nick Madden, Jake Evans, Chris Blake, Kevin Barrett, Glenn Draves, Dave Hoddick and Mike Shields. The Freshman class includes player's Dave Richards and Steve Accardo.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
