College Symphony Orchestra welcomes principal flute of Philadelphia Orchestra
Philadelphia Orchestra's Jeffrey Khaner will appear
as guest soloist with the Fredonia College Symphony
Orchestra, March 9
On Saturday, March 9, the SUNY Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra welcomes guest soloist Jeffery Khaner, principal flute of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall under the direction of Dr. David Rudge.
This event is free and open to the public. The program opens with Felix Mendelssohn's, "The Hebrides Overture, Op.26," conducted by graduate student Eric Mahl. The evening continues with Carl Reinecke's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 283 featuring Mr. Khaner.
After a brief intermission, the program closes with Tchaikovsky's last symphony, Symphony No. 6, (Pathetique), Op. 74.
Mr. Khaner will also be giving a flute master class for School of Music students on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
Mr. Khaner was previously principal of the Cleveland Orchestra, and has also served as principal of the New York Mostly Mozart Festival, the Atlantic Symphony in Halifax, and as co-principal of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
A noted soloist, Mr. Khaner has performed concerti with orchestras throughout the United States, Canada and Asia collaborating with a number of well-known conductors. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Mr. Khaner was named to the faculty as Flute Professor in 2004, holding the position formerly held by his mentor, the late Julius Baker. Since 1985 he has been a faculty member of the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
He has given master classes throughout North, South and Central America, Europe and Asia.
