Concerto Competition winners to perform with College Symphony
The Fredonia College Symphony will take the stage of King Concert Hall on Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m. under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, and will be joined by School of Music Concerto Competition winners, soprano Margaret Van Norden and pianist Callen Lange.
The concert will also feature the Johannes Brahm’s 3rd Symphony, one of the great masterworks of symphonic literature, and will conclude with the stylish and rarely heard "Vienna Jubilee Overture” by Franz von Suppe.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Ms. Van Norden is a senior at Fredonia as a Vocal Performance and Arts Administration major. She is a student in Professor Julie Newell's voice studio and has recently performed the title role in Carlisle Floyd's “Susannah” as well as in the Hillman Opera performance of “La Cenerentola.” Van Norden has performed in Fredonia's Commencement Eve Pops, participated in the Crittenden Opera Summer Workshop (Boston, Mass.), and in master classes with Dr. Quinn Patrick Ankrum, Sandra Buongrazio, Stefania Donzelli and critically acclaimed opera composer Jake Heggie. She will join the Fredonia College Symphony for selections from Verdi's “La Traviata.”
Mr. Lange, a junior Piano Performance major, was home schooled until the age of 15, at which point he began to take college courses, and obtained degrees in Mathematics and Business Administration by the age of 19. Soon thereafter, Lange came to Fredonia to study piano. He will perform the allegro affettuoso movement of Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54.
