Devils ranked No. 2 in East

The NCAA Division III women's lacrosse regional rankings released Wednesday, April 15, has Fredonia at No. 2 in the East.

The Blue Devils -- 11-2 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC -- are sandwiched between two SUNYAC rivals. They trail 10-2 Cortland and are one spot ahead of 7-3 Brockport.

The remaining teams ranked in the East are, in order, The College of New Jersey, Montclair State, Nazareth, St. John Fisher, and Stevens Institute.

The Blue Devils are 4-2 against regionally ranked teams. They have defeated Wooster (No. 3 in the Mid South), Montclair State, St. John Fisher, and Brockport. Losses have come to Mount Union (No. 1 in the Mid-South) and Cortland.

The final regional rankings are used to select teams for the NCAA Tournanament, scheduled to begin the weekend of May 8 to10 at on-campus sites.

Fredonia has three conference games remaining: Saturday at Oneonta, vs. Buffalo State on Tuesday, April 21 at home, and vs. Potsdam at home on Sat., April 25.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
