Devils take two to finish 3-1 on the weekend

The Blue Devil women's volleyball team won the final two matches of the Hiram Invitational on Saturday to finish 3-1 on the weekend.

Fredonia now stands at 12-2 overall as they prepare to enter SUNYAC pool play in Buffalo next weekend.

Against Marietta, Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) led the team in four statistical categories: hitting percentage (.450), kills (11), aces (2), and blocks (3). Kelly Edinger (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) had 26 assists in the match, while Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) had 16 digs.

DiChristopher hit for nine kills against Kalamazoo, while Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Jane Garrity (Rochester, N.Y./Victor) each had eight. Rein also collected 17 digs.

The team will play their first conference games next weekend, starting with New Paltz at 5 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday they'll take on Buffalo State at 10 a.m. and Plattsburgh at 3 p.m.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
