Exhibition at Fordham tips off '17-18 slate of games

A men's basketball exhibition game against an NCAA Division I opponent highlights the Fredonia men's basketballl 2017-18 schedule, released Aug. 4.

The Blue Devil men's basketball team will kick of its 2017-18 season Fri., Nov. 3 when it visits Fordham of the Atlantic 10. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Rose Hill Gym, the oldest gym still being used by an NCAA Division I team. The Rams, led by third-year coach Jeff Neubauer, are coming off a 13-19 season, including 7-11 in the A-10.

The game will be preceded by a pre-game reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Michael Angelo's Little Italy Restaurant, 2477 Arthur Ave., Bronx, N.Y. 10458. Cost is $10 per person (free to current Fredonia students) and includes soft drinks, pizza, and chicken wings. (Register here). Admission to the exhibition game is free.

Following the trip to Fordham, the Blue Devils -- 10-15 last year under Phil Seymore -- will visit Penn State Behrend on Wed., Nov. 15 before meeting John Carroll and a team to be determined Fri. & Sat., Nov. 17 & 18 at the Hilbert Tournament. The Blue Devils then open the home portion of their schedule Sat., Nov. 25 vs. Medaille at 4 p.m.. Three more road games precede their first SUNYAC home game Fri., Dec. 8 vs. Cortland at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday home game times are scheduled for 3 p.m. with two exceptions -- Jan. 13 vs. Geneseo (7 p.m.) and Feb. 17 vs. Buffalo State (7:30 p.m.). All SUNYAC home dates are doubleheaders, with the women scheduled to play two hours before the men.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
