Haines, Scott win RIT Early Season events

Fredonia had two firsts, three seconds, and one third at the RIT Early Season Invitational indoor track and field meet.

In the pole vault, sophomore Justyn Haines (Albion/Albion) cleared the bar at 4.35 meters to top a field of 15 men. The mile was won by freshman Cyd Scott (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) over a field of 10 runners in 4:31.28.

Second-place finishers were junior Pat Shenal (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) in the 1,000 meters (2:37.98), sophomore Mitchel Paciga (Jeffersonville/Sullivan West) in the high jump (1.83 meters), and sophomore Rocky Caparro (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) in the triple jump (13.18 meters).

Kyle Brown (Hamburg/Hamburg), a a junior, was third in the 35-pound weight throw (15.03 meters).

The Blue Devils finished sixth in the eight-team standings.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.
