Holly Lavin named Student of the Month
Holly Lavin of Rochester, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for March by the Office of Residence Life. She was nominated for this award by Distinguished Service Professor Jack Croxton for her campus and community outreach and her academic success.
Dr. Croxton spoke of Ms. Lavin’s contributions to an independent study research team. “I have been very impressed with Holly’s contribution thus far. She has been instrumental in helping the team decide on a research topic and determine an appropriate methodology. She has a developed a good rapport with her fellow students and I have enjoyed working with her.”
Lavin is very involved on campus. She is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, volunteering with the residents at the WCA Assisted Living Facility and participating in the annual “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” fundraising event. She is also a member of Enactus’ “LIFE” Team, which gives her the opportunity to spend time with the children at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County and Dunkirk High School. In addition, Lavin is a member of Psi Chi, the international honor society in Psychology, and Sigma Delta Pi, the national honor society in Spanish.
When asked her favorite thing about Fredonia, she said “the acts of kindness that I see on campus every day.”
In regards to her future, Lavin’s goal is to work with children with disabilities. She has a particular interest in helping children with autism reach their full potential within their environment, and hopes to be accepted into the Master of Social Work graduate programs that she has applied to in order to further her education after graduation and reach her career goals.
