CANCELLED: Golden Alumni Breakfast: 9 a.m., Alumni House, 286 Central Avenue. For members of the Class of 1957 and all prior classes. Tickets: $10/person.Homecoming Registration and Ticket Pick Up: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Williams Center. Parking in Nixon, Fenton and Thompson lots. A free shuttle bus will continuously circulate the various parking lots for your convenience.

Campus Woodlot Project to Remove Invasive Species: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; meet at Lake Shore Savings Clocktower.  Tools provided, but bring gloves.  Biology Club invites all members of the public to join it in removing non-native (Asian) bush honeysuckles from the woodlot. "Bush honeysuckles form dense patches in forest understories that shade out young trees, spring ephemerals, and other native plants and degrade the value of wildlife habitat," Professor Jon Titus (biology) said. "Some bush honeysuckle species also release chemicals into the soil to inhibit other plant growth. Bush honeysuckle fruits are very low in nutrients and do not provide the resources needed by migrating birds." Be prepared to have fun and get a little dirty!

Blue Devil Invitational Women's Volleyball: begins at 10 a.m., Dods Hall gymnasium. SUNY Fredonia plays Mount St. Joseph at 10 a.m., and Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m.

College of Education Gathering: 11 a.m., Foundation House Tent, light refreshments.

School of Business Luncheon/Reception: noon to 2 p.m., Thompson Hall Room W103, first floor lounge (across from Room 101). Food, drink, networking, door prizes. Free to all School of Business alumni.

Alumni Baseball Game: noon, Ludwig Field.

Alumni Awards Luncheon: noon, Williams Center Multipurpose Room. At this event, Outstanding Achievement Award recipients, including Cathy A. (Calannio) Marion, '79, and all science teachers who have graduated from Fredonia, will be honored. In addition, the first Michael J. Livingston '89 Memorial Scholarship will be presented. All honored classes will be recognized. After lunch, alumni are encouraged to stay and enjoy the Big Band Era music by the alumni group, "Pyramid Band," until 3 p.m. Reservations recommended. Tickets: $15/person. Science teachers who graduated from Fredonia will receive complimentary lunches.

Cancer Awareness Weekend slated for Sept. 8 and 9

The third annual Fredonia Soccer Cancer Awareness Weekend is Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 at University Stadium, also the weekend of the annual Blue Devil Classic. Admission fees will be collected both days and will be added to the proceeds to benefit Team Roswell, the fundraising arm of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

Welcome Week rolls out red carpet to students; Activities Night on Wednesday

What do an ice cream, a popular 3D computer-animated musical fantasy film from Walt Disney Pictures and a block party have in common? They were among a variety of attractions offered during Welcome Week, a popular Fredonia tradition hosted by Spectrum Entertainment Board and sponsored by the Student Association that welcomes students to a new academic year. All events, held during the first week of classes, were free to Fredonia students.

Technology incubator to host reception for North Shore Arts Alliance exhibition

An opening reception for a new art exhibition that showcases America’s national parks, exotic beaches and world destinations – as well as local landscapes – will be held at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, on Wednesday, June 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. The incubator’s inaugural summer exhibition will present approximately 50 paintings, photographs and works of art on paper by 11 members of the North Shore Arts Alliance.
