Kenneth Meyer to perform new guitar solos
Special guest artist Kenneth Meyer of the Syracuse University Setnor School of Music will perform in concert Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature a unique program of new guitar solos Mr. Meyer commissioned from five American composers. The project was supported with grants from the Barlow Endowment, Argosy Foundation, and the Hanson Institute for American Music. He is performing these new works in dozens of venues around the U.S. this season, and has plans to record them next year.
A graduate of the Fredonia School of Music, Mr. Meyer is frequently in demand as a guest artist in colleges and universities throughout the country. He also performs regularly in recital, as a chamber musician, and a soloist with orchestra across North America, South America, and Europe.
One of the compositions in his program was written by James Piorkowski of the Fredonia School of Music faculty, who was Mr. Meyer's guitar instructor while he was an undergraduate at Fredonia.
Prior to the concert, he will present a guitar master class from noon to 2 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall on Monday, Nov. 13. The master class open to the public and free.
The SUNY Fredonia graduate has been hailed by the Buffalo News as, "Impeccably articulate with superb technique." The Washington Post has called him "...a thinking man's guitarist who focuses on the inner structure of a piece and plays with impressive gravity and power."
