David Kinkela, chair and associate professor in the Department of History, co-edited the latest issue of Radical History Review, a top history journal devoted to issues of gender, race, sexuality, imperialism and class that stretches the boundaries of historical analysis to explore Western and non-Western histories.

Dr. Kinkela noted that since radical history generates knowledge aimed at transforming our shared present into a more just, equal, and sustainable future, it often speaks directly to contemporary conditions. The issue, "Pre-Modern Radicalism, Radical Pre-Modernism," seeks to challenge this conception by bringing together essays that bring a radical perspective to the history of the pre-modern past.

Among others, the issue includes essays on archaeology and cultural imperialism, space and Late Medieval Ottoman World, the geographies of the Spanish Habsburg Empire, and how pre-modern stories shaped Japanese identities in the 20th century.
Dr. Kinkela’s co-editors were Dr. Duane Corpis (NYU, Shanghai) and Kaya Şahin (Indiana University).
