The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Athlete and Pitcher of the Week awards for the 2018 season. Fredonia outfielder Steve Zaprowski (Williamsville/Williamsville) has been selected as Player of the Week, while Fredonia Luke Kuczewski (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) has been selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
Zaprowski led the Devils to a 3-1 week. In addition to hitting .500 (7 for 14), Zaprwoski also threw out the would-be, go-ahead run at the plate in the eighth inning of a 4-4 game vs. Eastern Mennonite. Zaprowski tied the game scoring from second base on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth, as Fredonia held on for a 6-5 win. Opening Day, he was 3 for 4 with two doubles in a 10-0 over Johnson and Wales.
Kuczewski went five scoreless innings in a 10-0 shutout on Opening Day. He allowed two hits and struck out five in the team's first win of the season. Senior Bailey Gauthier (Camillus/West Genesee) completed the shutout with a four-inning save.
This was the third straight year the Devils went 3-1 in Myrtle Beach.
The Blue Devils are participating in the RussMatt Invitational in central Florida from March 8th to March 17th. They return home for a game against Medaille on March 21st.
