Celebrating its 10th year of artistic excellence, the Lehrer Dance Company returns to Fredonia for a special performance on Thursday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m., in Marvel Theatre.

This event is sponsored by the Carnahan Jackson Humanities Fund, the Department of Theatre and Dance, Orchesis Dance Company and the Student Dance Organization. Tickets are $10 and available through the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center, online and by phone at 716-673-3501.

Lehrer Dance is a professional dance company based in Buffalo. Under the direction of Jon Lehrer, the company showcases his unique choreography and embodies his definitive style. Lehrer has an extensive background in both the modern and jazz dance idioms.

The Lehrer Dance style is “based on three main elements of movement: circularity, three-dimensionality and momentum.” These combine to create a form that has been described as “organically athletic,” integrating the approach and fluidity of modern dance and the excitement and energy of jazz dance to create an expressive, engrossing style of movement.

Founded in 2007, Lehrer Dance has earned international attention and critical acclaim. The eight-member company tours extensively, bringing its trademark artistic, athletic and accessible style to audiences worldwide.

According to Dance Magazine, Lehrer Dance takes the house “not so much by storm as by quantum physics. Jon Lehrer’s strikingly original choreography transformed the stage into an energy field of super-charged particles.”
