Matter, Bartlett take top diving honors vs. D-I Niagara

In men's swimming and diving, Jeff Matter claimed first place off the 3-meter board against Niagara University on Saturday. His score of 281.65 provisionally qualified him for the NCAA meet. Matter was second off the 1-meter board with a score of 263.65.

Fellow diver Rafael Santiago was right on Matter's heels all day. Santiago was second off the 3-meter (256.85) and third off the 1-meter (258.35) boards.

Will Baker, Troy Lubanski and Jake Hewitt claimed a pair of second-place finishes.

Baker placed in the 50 free (22.72) and the 100 free (49.39). Lubanski's seconds came in the 200 IM (2:03.40) and 200 backstroke (2:06.50). Hewitt's near victories came in the 200 butterfly (2:00.45) and the 500 free (5:07.63).

Adam Clouthier finished second in the 200 breast stroke (2:17.34).

The Division I Purple Eagles, however, claimed a 131-104 team victory. The men are back in Steele Hall this weekend when they play host to R.I.T.

The women's team also took on Niagara in Steele Hall on Saturday, with the Purple Eagles taking a 132-111 victory. However, Fredonia once again dominated diving, as Meghan Bartlett won both the 1-meter (256.75) and 3-meter (261.35) boards.

On the 1-meter, she was followed by Heather Colby (244.56) and Samantha Kowalewski (193.65) in second and third places, respectively.

Colby and Kowalewski repeated their second, third-place finishes off the 3-meter board. Colby turned in a score of 239.10, while Kowalewski finished with a score of 216.00.

Bartlett's score on the 1-meter qualified her for the NCAA Zone Meet.

Larissa Dobson had a pair of wins. Dobson took the 200-yard IM in 2:18.97 and the 200 breast stroke in 2:32.90.

Another trio of swimmers claimed firsts. Samantha Rokos in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.32; Ellie Brion in the 50 free in 25.80; and Rachael Morgano in the 100 free with a mark of 56.66.

The women also play host to R.I.T. this weekend.
