Medley relay record falls on day two

Fredonia's school record in the 400-yard medley relay was broken on the second day of SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday evening.

The team of Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y./York), Jake Favret (Watertown/Watertown), Bill Bradley (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), and Will Baker (East Amherst/Williamsville North) set the new mark at 3:30.01, besting the previous record set at the conference championships in 2014 (3:30.38).

Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) finished second in the finals of the 1-meter dive (452.25), a place behind Cortland's Miranda Fergus (475.40). Samantha Kowalewski (Cowlesville/Attica) took fourth with a score of 431.75, and Julie Coomer (East Aurora/Iroquois) was fifth at 412.15.

Adam Clouthier (Fairport/Fairport) and Sam Rokos (Delanson/Duanesburg) each took eighth place in their respective 200-yard individual medley events. Clouthier finished with a time of 1:59.27, while Rokos touched the wall at 2:13.74. Lubanski finished in tenth place in the consolation finals at 1:57.57.

Baker took 11th in the 50-yard freestyle (21.62), while Ben Chatley (Sanborn/Starpoint) was 16th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.78)

Thursday's preliminary results

Chelsea Spiegel (Spencerport/Spencerport) finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle.

Graham Jones (Buffalo/Kenmore East) finished 17th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.25), while Nathan Link (Grand Island/Grand Island) was 20th (5:02.65).

Danielle Dembrow (Lockport/Lockport) was 17th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.41)

Bill Bradley (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was 18th in the 50-yard freestyle (22.27).

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
