At February's Student of the Month luncheon, Meghan Harrington, center, received the award. Flanking her are  Martha Harrington (a 1956 SUNY Fredonia graduate) and Gary Bice (Director of Residence Life).

Meghan Harrington, a senior from Hamburg, N.Y., has been selected as the February Residence Life Student of the Month.

The Department of Residence Life Student of the Month committee selected Harrington after a nomination by Dan Compo, residence director of Schulz Hall, because of her demonstrated dedication to the Fredonia campus and community.

Harrington is a childhood education major with a concentration in social studies and a middle school extension; she also has a minor in leadership studies. In addition to her academic involvement, she is currently on her sixth semester as a Resident Assistant, a member of the Alma Mater Society, and a committee member for WHOA (Weekend Hangout Activities).

This summer, Harrington will work her second summer as an Orientation Leader, where she is able to share her experiences and advice about college to incoming students. Harrington has also been a member and intern of the Advanced Leadership Development Program, held an executive position on the Spectrum Entertainment Board, and was a College Ambassador in which she represented SUNY Fredonia at different events for alumni and other guests of the university.

She says her favorite things about Fredonia are how friendly everyone is and the diverse resources that are available on campus. “No matter what problem a person may have, there is someone on campus who is willing to help you,” Harrington explained.

In regards to future plans, Harrington will graduate in December 2010 and plans to continue her education in college student personnel or another area in the education field.

The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community. If you would like to nominate a student, visit www.fredonia.edu/student-life/residence-life/student-month.
