Ninth annual Fall Sweep sends students raking Saturday, Nov. 9
SUNY Fredonia’s annual Fall Sweep will take place Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Now in its ninth year, Fall Sweep is a yearly volunteer service initiative in which SUNY Fredonia students go out into the village of Fredonia to rake leaves off of their neighbors’ lawns to demonstrate the commitment they have to their community.
Community members residing on Temple Street, Central Avenue and smaller side streets will receive a flyer on their front porch the week before the event. The flyer will explain that if the recipients wish to have their yard raked by SUNY Fredonia students, they should visibly post the Fall Sweep flyer in a window or on their front door the morning of the event.
The sweep will begin in the Williams Center on the Fredonia campus with opening remarks and speeches from President Virginia Horvath and Fredonia Mayor Stephen Keefe. Students will then be sent into the community to begin their service.
Fall Sweep is co-hosted by SUNY Fredonia’s Applied Communications Association (ACA) and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). This year’s event is being done in conjunction with SUNY Fredonia’s “Days of Service,” a week long event that will combine volunteer efforts and service-learning projects at various locations throughout Western New York.
