Ortiz leads Devils to sweep of D.W. Eagles

Fredonia completed its weekend sweep of Daniel Webster with a 6-1 win Saturday in men's hockey.

Freshman winger Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Calif.) and his linemates combined for nine points in the lopsided affair. The Blue Devils outshot the Eagles, 60-12.

Junior winger Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) had a goal and two assists while senior center Taylor Bourne (Calgary, Alberta) had three assists skating alongside Morgan.

In addition, senior defenseman Ryan Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta) had a goal and two assists. It was his first goal of the season and his fourth as a Blue Devil in 82 games.

Sophomore center Daniel Martensson (Malmo, Sweden) also scored his first goal of the season while freshman defenseman Michael Freeman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) scored his second goal of the year.

Zach Paisley scored for the Eagles.

The three points by Ortiz give him 13 in 12 games this season -- seven goals and six assists. Bourne and Wilkinson have 11 points each.

Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.), a senior, had 11 saves to improve to 3-3-2. Nick Harper (Baldwinsville), a sophomore, appeared in his second collegiate game in relief of Flagler.

Daniel Webster's Morgan Hudson made 54 saves.

The Blue Devils ended the first semester with a 5-5-2 record, including a 4-3 win Friday over the Eagles (3-9-0)

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.
