"Pi'Jama Party" planned to celebrate National Pi Day

SUNY Fredonia’s Department of Mathematical Sciences will host the 13th annual Pi Day event, themed as a "Pi'Jama Party" on Thursday, March 14 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. in S226 Williams Center.

For those looking for an opportunity to show off their best set of pajamas as well as their mathematical abilities, the “Pi’Jama Party” event captures and cherishes the inner math geek in everyone by celebrating the mathematical constant, Pi.

National Pi Day is March 14, or 3-14 in accordance with the first three digits of the Pi value of 3.14159, which represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi is most recognized by the Greek letter “π” and was first recorded as an algorithm using polygons around 250 BC by the Greek mathematician Archimedes.

At the event, over a dozen teams of SUNY Fredonia math students will compete for the coveted “Pi Cup” in games such as “Three and a Little Bit More” scavenger hunt, “Pi’Jama Swap,” “Truth and No Dare,” and “Count Pi or Be Pranked,” in order to be deemed “Pi-Champions.”

These games are carefully designed by Fredonia’s math students and encouraged attendees dress in their favorite bedtime attire for chances to win prizes.

The “Pi’Jama Party” is a free event and is open to students, faculty/staff, and the general public.
