Relieve end-of-semester anxiety through ‘De-stress for Success’ offerings

With the spring semester about to wrap up soon and finals week just ahead, students are invited to tap into a wide assortment of events, programs and workshops designed to help them reduce anxiety in a healthy, productive manner.

They’re all part of “De-stress for Success” -- 12 days that start on Monday, May 1, and continue through Friday, May 12 -- designed to give students the focus they need to succeed. All activities and events are free and open to all students.

Schedule of events/activities:

Zumba
Monday, May 8, 11 a.m. to noon, Williams Center Room S222 (Leadership Training Room). Participants are invited to dance away stress with a free Zumba class.

Paws to Relax
Monday and Tuesday, May 8 and 9, noon to 1 p.m., Reed Library. Participants can pet and play with certified therapy dogs.

Freeze Pops and Frisbees
Wednesday and Thursday, May 10 and 11, 11 a.m. to noon, Reed Library lobby. Relax with free Freeze Pops and Frisbees.

Power Yoga
Tuesday, May 9, 11 a.m. to noon, Williams Center Room S222 (Leadership Training Room). Free yoga class; energize mind and body. Mats will be available or participants can bring their own.

Unwind with Ukuleles
Thursday, May 4, 6 to 7 p.m., Tim Horton’s, Williams Center. Join the Ukulele Club to jam and relax by strumming to this soothing instrument. Ukuleles will be provided, all levels are welcomed and no experience is necessary.

Healthy Bites
Monday through Friday, May 1-5, and 8-12. The Student Health Center (LoGrasso Hall) will offer free healthy snacks. Healthy snacks will also be available Monday and Tuesday, May 8 and 9, noon to 1 p.m., in Reed Library.

Relaxation Kits
Monday through Friday, May 1-5, and 8-12. The Student Health Center (LoGrasso Hall) will be offering free relaxation kits.

Stress Free Zone
Monday through Friday, May 1-5, and Monday through Thursday, May 8-11, Reed Library lobby. Students can take a timeout from their hectic schedules and relax with various stress relieving activities, such as coloring, crafts and games.

Quiet Study Areas
Reed Library has extended hours from Sunday, April 30, through Thursday, May 11. During this time, the Reed Library Classroom (first floor, Carnahan Jackson Center) will be available for quiet study in addition to the everyday quiet study areas on the second and third floors of the Carnahan Jackson Center. The Williams Center has designated the Multipurpose Room a quiet study area, Monday through Thursday, May 8-11, 9 a.m. to 11:45 p.m., and Friday, May 12, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Exam Study Break
Tuesday, May 9, 7 p.m., free food, Williams Center Multipurpose Room, sponsored by Spectrum.

De-Stress for Success is sponsored by the Counseling Center, Reed Library, Office of Student Affairs, Student Health Center, Office of Residence Life, Campus Life and Spectrum.

Artists donate items to raffle to support student medical mission to Honduras

A raffle, featuring items by well-known Fredonia area artists, will be held to raise money to support a student study abroad mission to Honduras. Students enrolled in the 2019 J-term course, Honduras Health Care, taught by Dr. Ted Lee, will conduct medical brigades and do service work at day-long clinics set up in schools or community centers in small rural communities.

Fredonia to host Safe Halloween for area children

The annual Safe Halloween, an event for local children and their parents/guardians, will be held at Fredonia on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to noon in Mason Hall. Guests are invited to come dressed up and ready for trick-or-treating. Every child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Actress and alumna Mary McDonnell to return to Fredonia on Homecoming Weekend

Fredonia will welcome two-time Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe-nominated actress Mary McDonnell, Fredonia Class of '74, back to campus. She will join Department of Theatre and Dance Associate Professor Jessica Hillman-McCord at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Robert W. Marvel Theatre for “An Afternoon with Mary McDonnell,” in what promises to be a lively and informal conversation about the actress’ life and career on the Broadway stage, in film and in television.
