September 15 is deadline for summer international faculty development seminars

Lisa Eikenburg

Coordinator of International Learning (COIL) Ted Schwalbe, through Vice President of Academic Affairs Virginia Horvath, has announced that SUNY Fredonia is accepting applications for Summer 2011 for faculty development seminars administered through the Council for International Educational Exchange.

SUNY Fredonia will fund two of the applications (including the application fee, seminar fee and international airfare) based on the recommendation of a selection committee. The application should consist of a two to three-page narrative describing which seminar a faculty member wishes to attend, why they wish to attend it, and what benefits it will bring in terms of future teaching and scholarship. A cover sheet should indicate the applicant’s full name, department, campus address and phone/e-mail contact information. A three-person committee of faculty with experienced international credentials will recommend applicants to Vice President Horvath. Priority will be given to faculty with limited international experience. All applicants should demonstrate how the experience will benefit themselves, their students, and SUNY Fredonia. Applications should be sent (e-mail or regular mail) to Dr. Schwalbe, Department of Communication, 326 McEwen Hall, or to Schwalbe@fredonia.edu.

A complete list of the seminar locations and topics (most are 10 to14 days) is available here.

Although the CIEE online application deadline is March 1, 2011, some seminars may fill up early. In order to insure that SUNY Fredonia participants will have access to participate in all of the seminars, the committee will accept the local application narratives until Sept. 15. Applicants will be notified by Oct. 1 or earlier.

Those funded for this program will be expected to make a minimum of two presentations during the following academic year.

Those with questions should contact Dr. Schwalbe.
