Sign-up started for sanctioned Cheer & Dance event

Registration has begun for the 2016 Fredonia Cheerleading and Dance Competition. The event has been scheduled for Sun., Jan. 24, 2016 at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.

Cost is $125 for cheerleading teams and $150 for dance teams. Online registration is available by following the link.

In another development, Western New York high school Section VI has sanctioned the cheerleading portion of the event for the first time and has placed it on its official high school cheerleading calendar. Section VI began sanctioning events after the New York State Board of Regents first recognized cheerleading as a high school sport in April 2014.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.
