Students going green with ink and toner cartridge recycling

"Recycle Ink," a group of students within Enactus (formerly SIFE), is making it easier and more convenient than ever to recycle used ink and toner cartridges throughout the SUNY Fredonia campus.

Its members -- Chris Jung, Jacqueline Samoraj and Justin Cunningham -- have established nine Recycle Ink stations at the following locations: Thompson Media Center, Reed Library, Houghton computer lab, Fenton computer lab, University Commons, Sheldon Multimedia Lab in McEwen, Financial Aid Office, and outside the School of Business office in Thompson.

Recycle Ink, which worked with the SUNY Fredonia Sustainability Committee to implement this project to help the environment through recycling, has already collected 150 ink cartridges, and is committed to collect even more with the additional recycle stations now in use. The Recycle Ink team is working in conjunction with a full-service recycling company in Erie, Pa.

Enactus is a community of students and academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. Recent graduates who worked on the ink station project included Chad Allen, John McIntosh and Carly Antinoro.
