Swimmer Rokos a double winner

Sam Rokos won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles as the Fredonia Blue Devil swimming and diving team opened its season at Ithaca on Saturday. Brockport also participated in the tri-meet.

In the 100 free, Rokos finished in 55.50, and put up a time of 2:00.22 in the 200 free.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team also earned a first-place finish in 1:41.87.

Larissa Dobson had a pair of second-place finishes. Her 50-yard breast stroke time was 31.69, and her 100 breast time was 1:09.75.

Rachel Morgano (50 free; 25.73) and Stephanie Rosa (100 backstroke; 1:01.96) finished in the No. 2 spot in their respective races.

Off the 1-meter diving board, Meghan Bartlett (225.85) and Heather Colby (224.35) finished one-two. Colby would gain the upper hand on her teammate off the 3-meter board, scoring 246.70, while Bartlett tallied 241.05 for a second-place finish.

The Blue Devils have their home opener vs. Division I Niagara next Saturday at noon.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
