Tenor Gerald Thomas Gray of the Fredonia School of Music and fortepianist David Breitman of Oberlin Conservatory of Music will present Schubert’s beloved song cycle Die Schöne Müllerin in a performance Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall at SUNY Fredonia.

The evening length song cycle, featuring music by Schubert and poetry by Wilhelm Muller, comes from an historic 1830 printed edition by the Viennese publishing house Diabelli and Co. Admission is free.

“This 1830 edition documented the manner in which Schubert’s principal singer Vogl interpreted this song cycle,” Professor Gray, who teaches voice at the Fredonia School of Music, said.

Mr. Breitman, a specialist in performing works to historical accuracy, will accompany the cycle. “He will be performing on an historically-accurate reproduction fortepiano; one on which Schubert himself would have used to accompany these songs,” Professor Gray said.
