Top performances at St. John Fisher meet

Fredonia women had two individual winners and established eight personal-bests Saturday at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic.

The wins were by Brittany Feldman (Jamestown) in the 200 meters in 26.03 seconds and Sarah Couperus (Marion, N.Y.) in the high jump with a clearance of 1.57 meters (5 fee, 1 3/4 inches).

Four of the personal-bests came in the 1,500 meters. The quartet consisted of Kristen Guarino (Bergen), Emily Maguire (Oakdale), Brenna Donovan (Youngstown), and Kelly Vincent (Randolph). Hannah Kurbs (Lockport) was eighth in the race.

Anneliese Bienko (Clarence) and Rachel Williams (Lockport) had personal-bests in the discus, Carly DeBono (Medford) in the 800 meters, and Miranda Warner (Westfield) in the 100-meter high hurdles. Bienko finished second in the discus, Kristen Sawyer (Lockport) third in the pole vault, and Williams fifth in the hammer throw.

Fredonia also won the 4-by-400 meter relay with Bonnie Binggeli (Walworth), Feldman, Stephanie Wojnowski (Rochester, N.Y.), and Maguire in 4:15.74.

The SUNYAC championship meet is next up for the Blue Devils this Friday and Saturday at SUNY Cortland.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
