Two non-profits get assistance from PR class

Students will develop unique campaigns for each of the nonprofit organizations to raise awareness and ultimately benefit community members of Chautauqua County.
Not only will the organizations benefit from the community outreach project, but the students will as well. Students in the Public Relations Management capstone course will face the obstacles and hardships of “real life” public relations during this program as they form groups that will act as public relations firms and develop campaigns for their respective organizations.
At the end of the semester, the students will propose their campaigns to the organizations. The course encourages students to use and expand on all the tools that they have learned while at SUNY Fredonia.
“These students have been studying and preparing for this project for four years,” said Ann Carden, associate professor of communication and instructor for the public relations project. “They have come a long way, and I am convinced that they will go above and beyond for their clients.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County has been operating for 11 years. The organization strives to enable and inspire all young people, especially those who need them most, but with the lack of funding available in the current economy, the local chapter is in desperate need for a campaign that will bring together the whole community.
Founded in 1974, Das Puppenspiel Puppet Theater is a professional touring theatre that offers award-winning main stage productions throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The puppet theater is in need of local support and funding, as well. As Das Puppenspiel thrives nationally, local recognition is nearly nonexistent; 75 percent of the theater’s performances take place outside Chautauqua County.
