Fredonia won its home opener on a hot Labor Day afternoon on the refurbished Steele Hall Courts. The Blue Devils (1-1) defeated the Thiel Tomcats, 6-3.

Chloe Cohen (West Hempstead, N.Y.), a sophomore, was a double-winner -- teaming with junior Halee Dickinson (Batavia, N.Y.) at No. 2 doubles and clinching Fredonia's team win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.

In other singles action, freshman Olivia Miller (Springwater, N.Y.) won her first college match, 6-0 and 7-5, at No. 3 singles, rallying from a 4-0 deficit in the second set. Also, sophomore transfer Chloe Karnisky (Canandaigua, N.Y.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fifth singles. It was her first win as a Blue Devil.

Fredonia's two other points -- at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles -- were by virtue of forfeit because Thiel was short on players.

The Blue Devils are back in action Tuesday when they play host to Penn State Behrend. Time of the match is 4 p.m.
